Conquest Hospital MRI Scanner Appeal

The Conquest Hospital

Gaby Hardwicke has chosen the Friends of The Conquest Hospital as our ‘Charity of the Year’ for the 2017-18 financial year. Specifically, we are pledging our support to the Conquest Hospital MRI Scanner Appeal and will be undertaking a range of fundraising activities over the next 12 months.

The Conquest performs over 7,500 MRI scans a year, but its current scanner is 13 years old and cannot scan patients with pacemakers or adequately deal with the growing demand for MRI scans from the local area. Consequently, the hospital sometimes has to refer patients elsewhere for scans, often to London. A modern MRI scanner will scan patients faster (including those with pacemakers) and reduce waiting times and the need for referrals to hospitals outside the area.

Based in Hastings, the Conquest has a catchment area of 400,000 people, serving the communities of Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill, Rye, Robertsbridge, Battle and surrounding areas. Although the Conquest is the area’s acute site for trauma, orthopaedics, surgery and paediatrics, unfortunately it does not have the funds needed to buy a new MRI scanner. The Friends of The Conquest has therefore taken up the challenge of raising the £1 million the hospital needs.
