Two new Dementia Friends at Gaby Hardwicke

Senior Associate Solicitor Toby FountaineAnother two members of our Care for the Elderly team undertook dementia-awareness training recently and qualified as Dementia Friends.

Senior Associate Solicitor Toby Fountaine (pictured) and Executive Rachel Cullip completed their training at Bethune Court care home in St Leonards. The session, provided by Dementia Friends UK, was about recognising and dealing with dementia through work, family and the local community. It also offered Toby and Rachel a greater understanding of how those living with dementia are affected. Fellow team member Elizabeth Mullaney (Associate Solicitor) is also a qualified Dementia Friend.

Blue Hawaii screening

On 8 November, Toby, who leads our Bexhill Care for the Elderly team, attended a dementia-friendly screening of the 1961 musical comedy Blue Hawaii, starring Elvis Presley, at the De La Warr Pavilion.

“Over 180 attended,” said Toby, “and there were lots of people wearing Hawaiian flower garlands, with various Elvis songs being played before the screening. It was great to see so many people at a film screening who might otherwise find it difficult to go. Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun.”

The Blue Hawaii event was the third in a series of film screenings for people with dementia or disabilities, through a partnership between the Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance and the De La Warr Pavilion. We at Gaby Hardwicke are delighted to be supporting the initiative through our charity, the Gaby Hardwicke Foundation.
