Hastings Legal Walk 2016

Debra Frazer, Giles Robinson and Jane StricklandGaby Hardwicke solicitors Debra Frazer, Giles Robinson and Jane Strickland (current President of the Hastings & District Law Society) completed the annual 10km Hastings Legal Walk on Monday 19 September in aid of the Advice and Community Hub.

As usual, the walk started and finished at the First In Last Out pub in Hastings Old Town and the funds raised will benefit underprivileged and vulnerable local people via the Advice and Community Hub.

The hub comprises three not-for-profit organisations that provide valuable free advice to vulnerable people who have been ineligible for legal aid since it was abolished in April 2013 for poverty-related problems.  Its members are Hastings Advice & Representation Centre (HARC), Hastings Citizens Advice Bureau and the Hastings service of Brighton Housing Trust.

Some examples of their good work include:

  • Brighton Housing Trust prevented 302 people and families from becoming homeless in the past year and secured £2,042,452.56 in benefits for those affected by cancer.
  • HARC secured £4,901,879.29 in previously unclaimed benefits, of which £2,197,988.14 was disability benefits.
  • MoneyAdvice (Citizens Advice 1066) has helped over 16,500 people in the past year and dealt with over £5,600,000 of debt.
