Eaton Sagar (merged with Gaby Hardwicke in 1999)
In 1986 Bryan Sagar (pictured) joined the Wellington Square Hastings-based practice of Grey & Co. and acquired the firm in 1987 from its sole practitioner, Janet Grey. Bryan invited Nick Robinson to join him and they practised in partnership until the mid 1990s, when Nick left to form his own law firm in the Bristol area.
Bryan and Nick merged with Marion Eaton's Hastings Old Town practice in 1990 and the amalgamated practice was renamed Eaton Sagar. Marion remained with the firm until her retirement.
Eaton Sagar was a small but well-respected practice with a fine reputation and at its peak had 20 personnel. However, due to the firm’s size, Bryan Sagar was unable to attract the calibre of lawyer he needed to grow the business further.
After talks with John Midgley and Peter Taylor of Gaby Hardwicke, Bryan agreed terms for an amalgamation and Eaton Sagar merged with Gaby Hardwicke on 1 June 1999.
